A railing that moves when you lean on it or a deck step that flexes underfoot is a safety risk, especially with children and guests. We repair and strengthen deck railings, balustrades and stairs in timber, steel, glass and composite.

Safe Edges
Railings and stairs must be solid every time someone leans or steps on them.
We re-fix and replace posts, balusters, treads and stringers for safe deck access.
Materials
Classic
Warm, natural railings that match the deck. They need posts bolted properly to the frame. Timber needs oiling like the deck.
Modern
Clear glass panels or slim steel balustrades that keep the view open. Fixings and seals must be checked. Steel must be kept painted.
Railings rely on their posts. A post fixed with a couple of screws will loosen as the timber moves. Through-bolts or structural brackets into the frame keep posts rigid.
Gaps between balusters should be small enough that a child cannot squeeze through, and steps should be even in height so nobody trips. We check both on every repair.
For indoor stairs, see stair and banister repair. For steel railings, see welding and metal fabrication, and for boards, deck board replacement.

Start by finding the cause: rotten boards, loose screws, a failed joist or a sinking support. Damaged boards are replaced, joists sistered or replaced, fixings renewed and the deck then cleaned and sealed.
A stain adds colour and UV protection, while a sealer repels water without changing the colour much. Many deck oils do both. In Dubai's sun, a pigmented stain or oil lasts longer than a clear sealer.
In Dubai, timber decks usually need re-oiling or re-staining every 6 to 12 months because of strong UV. If water no longer beads on the surface or the colour has turned grey, it is time. WPC decks do not need staining, only cleaning.
Most repairs take two to four hours. Rebuilding a set of deck stairs takes a day.
