How Skim Coating Works
- Step 1
Prepare
Loose material is removed, cracks taped and the wall primed if needed.
- Step 2
First Coat
A thin coat of compound is spread over the whole wall with a wide blade.
- Step 3
Second Coat
A second thin coat fills remaining low spots at a different angle.
- Step 4
Sand and Prime
The wall is sanded flat under a work light and primed for paint.

A Smooth Base for Paint

After wallpaper removal, the gypsum paper face is often torn. Painting over it causes bubbles. We seal the torn face with a primer, then skim coat it smooth.

Will the Repair Be Visible, and How Do You Match the Paint?
We feather the repair beyond the damaged area, sand it smooth and prime it, then paint to the nearest corner or joint using your colour code or a matched sample, so it blends into the wall.
What Causes Cracks in Gypsum Walls?
Most cracks appear at board joints, around door frames and at corners, caused by building movement, temperature swings from AC, and joints that were not taped properly. Re-taping the joint stops most cracks returning.
